Walmart Rhetoric
So, in anthropology the other day, we watched a movie about walmart. It wasn’t until I watched this documentary that I realized that walmart uses a dang lot of rhetoric to boost sells. Although a lot of times, they really do have the best prices in town, not everything is the best price in town. Yet, they advertise the products that they seel that are the cheapest in town, and when many people come and see the advertisement, they think that since that those particular products are the best priced around, they automatically think that buying anything else in the store would result in great savings as well. Which often-times, it doesn’t. This is really good rhetoric that walmart uses to help sell more products. Though this fact is true, I still love walmart and practically live there. Or at least I would if I had a car. (the pic is just a funny one I found)

The Island Camk is a private island that Cierra, Adelaide, Me, and Karen made up. It is a beautiful place. Completely pollution, crime, and yucky-free. It is located in the middle of the ocean, where no one can find it and where we can be left alone to get high on life, monster, fuze, and euphoria over not having ANY homework or manual labor ever. It is a great little island full of happiness. It is a place where it never snows, never rains, and it never dies. It is GREAT!
Ok, well, we just WISH there was such an island that was as cool as that. But instead, we are stuck here, in our little Provo bubble. Where I am drowning in essays and where finals are ruining my life. Gah. I will just have to dream of The Island Camk

Eeeek. I <3 Christmas
So this blog post is completely devoted to my absolute love for Christmas. Let me get one thing completely clear: I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! So so so much! I love everything to do with it! I love: Christmas songs, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, all Christmas decorations, hot chocolate, candy canes, angels, mistletoe, holly, snowmen, candles, gingerbread houses, snowflakes, presents, Santa Clause, reindeer, break from school, break from life, mittens, scarves, the mist of cold breath. All of it. But I especially love the feeling of Christmas. The excitement just clings to every tree branch, every snowflake, every mitten, every person. Everywhere you go, you can feel Christmas. It seems that the season brings a feeling of happiness wherever you go.
One of my favorite things to do around Christmas time is sing Christmas Carols. Christmas songs are so so great. They are the best music there uis. I am kinda sad that you are only allowed to listen to them for like one month out of the year. I would listen to them more often, if I was allowed, but several of my roomates have suggested that they might killed me if I had listened to Christmas music before the month of December. So now it is Decmeber. And so now Christmas is all I listen to. <3

Love Story
We were bothyoung when I first saw you
I closed my eyes and the flashback starts
I'm standing there
On a balcony in summer air
See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
I see you make your way through the crowd
And say hello
Little did I know
That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said, "stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you, please don't go
And I said
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes
So, I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while
Oh oh
Cause you were Romeo, I was the scarlet letter
And my daddy said, "stay away from Juliet"
But you were my everything to me
I was begging you, please don't go
And I said
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes
Romeo,save me
They try to tell me how I feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes
Oh oh
I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you is fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town
And I said
Romeo, save me
I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head
I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
And said
Marry me, Juliet, you'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad
Go pick out a white dress
It's a love story
Baby, just say yes
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh
'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

More Rhetoric
So, I think it was Halloween night. Or the night before. I can't really remember. But Adelaide, Cierra, Karen, and I were dressing up all cool. And we were taking pictures of our coolness in my room. Well, Adelaide and I have a rather large collection of fuze bottles in my room on the window sill. It actually looks really cool. Anyways. Karen made a comment about how we should do something really cool with the collection of fuze bottles. Like make a sculpture out of them or something. Then Cierra made that comment that we should actually fill up the entire window sill with fuze bottles then take a picture and sell it to the fuze company so they could make a rad commercial out of it. This would make a sweet commercial because having so many fuze bottles at one place at one time would prove to many people that fuze bottles are really good. Good enough in fact that one person could consume that many fuzes.
This is a pic of me and Cierra with my fuzes. I look high on something, so don't mind me, just look at the fuzes. And Cierra because she is gorgeous.

I had been having a horrible week. I had so much homework and I was stressed to the max and I was just not so happy. And then on thursday, I went to go take the chem test. And I didn't do as well as I would have liked so I was even more bummed. Then I went home and Adelaide had made cake for me! And Karen had cleaned my room and made me notes and wrote me a poem. It was sooooooo nice!
The cake that Adelaide made me was sooo delicious. It was a pink strawberry cake. And she put a jello mix in it. And used Whipped Cream as frosting. Then she put lots and lots of sprinkles on it. It was So so so GOOD! And the poem Karen wrote for me was so silly. It made me giggle.
So yeah that was really awesome.

Competition
I despise competition. I hate every form of it. Competition in sports, in boys, in fashion, in social life... It is in practically every part of life, but I try to avoid it every chance I can.
Sports: I am soooo incredibly horrible at sports, it is exasperating. I try to move my arms and legs at the same time to be able to shoot a basket, but when I shoot, I am off by a mile. When I extend my arms to bump back a volley, somehow the ball ricochets off my arm in the opposite direction... my arms aren't crooked or anything are they? Unfortunately, sports are very competitive. When I am just playing a game with some friends, they are way fun. But put me on a team and I go nuts. Everyone knows I am bad, so they never pass me the ball. And there is a lot of shoving, and shouting, and poor sportsmanship. Sports is a big deal a lot of the time. In High school, if you were on a sports team it pretty much automatically boosted your social status. And social competition is way not fun either...
Girls will do just about anything to get attention. I feel like there is always competition when it comes to girls. I get paranoid because I am not pretty enough, or smart enough. I am not flirty enough to get the guy, not cool enough to be invited to the party. Not outgoing enough to be in the 'cool' crowd, not fun enough to be considered her 'best friend'. Feelings of inadequecy always haunt me when it comes to competition. I am not talented enough to beat anyone at any sport, and not cool enough to have a chance in the social world.
But then I think of all the things I have going for me. I have a family. A stable, loving family who would do absolutely anything for me. There is no harsh competetion within the home! I don't need to impress anyone at home. I also don't have to compete for my clothes, food, shelter.Saturday, October 11, 2008

Rhetorical Shampoo
So, the other day I was doing what I know how to do best... facebooking. I was viewing one of my friends' pictures, and this particular picture was a very gorgeous one of her showing off her long, golden, curly hair. It was very pretty hair. Then I noticed that this particular picture of hers had also attracted the attention of many of her other friends, many of which had left comments. So I decided to read the comments that had been left. The one that caught my eye the most, was one that said: "someone should do a shampoo commercial! you look beautiful as ever"
I think that this particular picture would be a great idea for an ad or something of the sort, because her hair is really pretty, and it would convince many people, that if they bought the advertised champoo, then they could have pretty hair as well.

I really really like this ad. :) First of all, I love the colors splashed against the black and white photo. Second of all I love the colors. I think colors are a an excellent way to grab someone's attention. I know that whenever I see something colorful, I get really happy. Colors are very pleasing to the eyes. And they also make you happy, therefore appealing to your sense of pathos.
Second of all, I love play-doh! It is so fun! This ad is cool becausei t helps prompt the creativity in people through playing with play-doh.

College is hard
Homework really sucks. Especially when I have no idea how to do it. And I don't know who to go to for help. It feels like I am alone in a huge, new world. I feel so lost.
I guess all I can do is plaster a smile on my face and pretend to know what I am doing.

Rhetoric! Ah!
So I was looking online for a good example of a rhetorical tool. One that struck me as really funny was a bumper sticker.
This sticker is a good example of rhetoric because it is an adertisement for a certain website, but it makes you want to visit it because on the side in huge letters it says GET HIGH. While the sticker is actually talking about climbing it has implications to other things as well. The statement Get High could refer to a substance high, but it can also refer to a happy high. When you are having so much fun, you can feel 'high on life', if you will. You feel like everything is going your way. Who wouldn't want to feel high? I think this is very much an appeal to pathos.
College is a blast!
I've learned many things since I've been here:
~Volleyball is funnest when the ball gets stuck in trees
~Going to bed at two might not be the smartest thing when you have to wake up at 8 for chemistry the next morning.
~Fuze and Sparkling cider have an intoxicating effect on you.
~Movies are more fun when there are twelve people crammed on your couch
~A dance party can be cool even if there are only two of you
~Late-night walks should be avoided
~Running through sprinklers in the middle of the night is very cold, but way super fun
~Ice cream, pickles and yogurt don't count as a healthy meal
~It is way fun to sit outside on a blanket and 'do homework' (we actually just were watching boys walk by)
~It is more fun to hang out with a bunch of rowdy guys than a group of competitive girls
~Alone time can be beneficial
~Attracting fruitflies is harder than expected
~Provo is a bubble
~Tunnle singing is the BEST
~Chemistry is HARD

Boys are dumb
Why do they do what they do? What compels them to say what they say? Why do they have to be so cute? Why do they have to act so incredibly stupid? Why do they think it's cool to be a jerk? I realize I may be generalizing quite a bit, but I am seriously wondering these questions.
So, what defines a cute boy? A dumb one?
Cute: (doesn't usually happen this way ;))
~He seems a little tough on the outside, but you get to know him and he’s really a sensitive guy.
~He is musically talented. What girl does not dream of a guy who can sing or play guitar?
~He dresses pretty nice. Not too nice. It can be kinda cute when I guy sorta tries, but fails to match his clothes.
~He opens the door for you.
~He tells you you’re beautiful, even you’re just really good friends. And he means it.
~He takes 5 minutes to fix his hair. Not more. Not less.
~He respects you for you.
~He teases you, but knows where to draw the line.
~When he’s with your friends and you, he acts the same as when you are alone.
~He makes inside jokes with you.
~He tells you his secrets.
Dumb:
~He won’t open up to you and show you his soft side.
~He pretends he is too cool for anything.
~He spends more time getting ready for the day than I do.
~He tells you you’re beautiful and act like you’re the only one, then the next day you see him do the same thing to your best friend.
~He is super mean to you and you have absolutely no idea why.
~He talks to you one day, then ignores you the next.
~He is a total slob.
~He expects you to do everything.
Probably more on this subject to come...
